After evacuating the State Building on the morning of the 17th of August 2004 the "Lady" left her perch, and was safely set-down in a nearby parking lot not far from the Capital Building were a 45-foot semi trailer was waiting to transport her to H. & L.'s shop. Info link
After several days of preparation and the evacuation of the building, Miss Freedom was ready for the air-lift.

Existing support armature and steel support bands showing signs of advanced deterioration.

A new armature was incorporated, made of a 9-inch by 1/2-inch thick galvanized steel pipe.

Stage one of three, primer coats are applied to prepare the exterior for the final stages of painting. Next, the statue receives three base coats of new paint, applied directly over the primer finish
