The Logan County Courthouse in Lincoln, Illinois, has been a historic landmark since its completion in 1905. The courthouse features a grand limestone exterior and a prominent central dome.
Originally, the dome consisted of a coated steel frame, overlaid with steel lath and covered in a three-part stucco system. As part of a comprehensive restoration effort, the dome was reimagined using 20-ounce copper.
Heather & Little contributed to the project by fabricating 180 LF of the lower cornice, which included a curved profile, dentils, and custom decorative boxes.
Samples of the original components were sent to our shop for precise replication. Our close coordination with Durable Restoration, the project’s General Contractor, ensured that each detail maintained historical integrity.
This collaborative project brought together the expertise of The Durable Slate Company (installer), Chicago Metal Supply (ornamental sheet metal), and Heather & Little. The result is a beautifully restored dome, faithful to its historic roots yet engineered for longevity—preserving the legacy of the Logan County Courthouse for generations to come.
In recognition of this work, the copper dome at the Logan County Courthouse was honored with a 2024 North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) award by the Copper Development Association (CDA).
