A.A. Heaps Building, Winnipeg, Manitoba

When Heather & Little took on this roofing project, the deterioration on the dome of this “free renaissance” style building was beyond repair by any normal restoration methods so the Architect decided to re-clad the dome in sheet lead because of material’s extreme malleability.

Versatile and Long Lasting

Lead is a blue-white shiny metal that tarnishes into a dull grey. It was particularly popular in the Georgian period as it was well suited to low-pitched roofs—but it can be used equally on pitched roofs. It’s ideal for widespread external use in construction, especially where it is necessary to keep out rainwater at the junctions between roof pitches. Sheet lead can be manufactured by three methods: sand casting, machine casting and milling (often referred to as rolled). For more than 90 years, Heather & Little has been called on to provide this specialized trade on restoration projects throughout North America.
