Ornamental and decorative sheet metal has long been used to add interest and appeal to important buildings.

During its heyday –1870s through the 1930s, sheet metal was used in North America for a variety of decorative three-dimensional exterior components. While pundits of the day criticized metal decorative elements as being merely imitative of expensive or difficult to produce materials, the court of public opinion was firmly on the side of decorative metal—it was durable, beautiful, and made possessing a building of style within the grasp of a larger population. Today we have inherited the legacy of this period of ornamentation. The skilled pressed sheet metal craftsmen at Heather & Little have a wealth of restoration and reproduction experience required to preserve these details, whether they are on18th century churches, heritage schools or government buildings, for future generations.

Montreal City Hall, Montreal, PQ

Heather & Little completed decorative finishing elements for Montreal City Hall’s copper mansard roof as well as the bell tower with 20-, 24- and 32-ounce sheet copper. Our team reproduced roof finials, copper urns, and copper balustrades. Each of these pieces was carefully replicated using the original copper elements from the building.

CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre, Toronto ON

Heather& Little were brought in to repair the 1980s embellishments that were added to the Theatre exterior to recreate the style of its original 1920s appearance. The repairs needed to marry seamlessly with 1980s elements that were still in good condition.
