The original St. Peter's Anglican Church was constructed in the spring of 1820.
By 1851, plans for a new 7,000 sq. ft. brick church, designed by Kivas Tulley, who also designed the renowned Victoria Hall in Cobourg, were set in motion. The new church, featuring a steeple, was built around the original structure, which was later dismantled. The first service in the new church took place in October 1854.
In 2022, H&L, working with The Dalton Company, was tasked with the Church’s roof renovations that included the supply and installation of approximately 6,500 sq. ft. of No. 1 Victorian shingles and various flashings (wall, ridge, and eave) based on approved engineered shop drawings. In addition to the shingles, 280 feet of K-style seamless gutters and 225 feet of downpipe were installed.
The bell tower underwent modifications as well, which included a flat roof build-up of tapered insulation, a 2-ply modified bitumen membrane, a new drain, and a hatch. Custom parapet flashings were installed on the interior walls and over the stone cap.
One of the main challenges of the project involved working with pre-painted materials, requiring close collaboration with the architect, Charles H. Sopher, to meet both the design and technical specifications.
