The Belle in Mabelle Park, Etobicoke, Ontario

Located in Mabelle Park, The Belle serves as the heart of a vibrant, low-income community. Mabelle Park is Canada’s first park designed specifically to address the unique needs and aspirations of residents living in a high-density, low-income tower neighborhood.

The Belle's striking exterior is clad entirely in aluminum shingles, chosen for their durability, affordability, and ability to withstand the demands of a public park setting. This choice not only provides a practical solution but also gives the building a bold and unique identity within the community.

Working with Desar Construction Studio, H&L installed approximately 3,000 aluminum shingles (fabricated by 3R Tiles) to create The Belle’s seamless facade. The installation highlights H&L’s precision craftsmanship, ensuring the tiles were aligned to maintain straight sightlines and wrap effortlessly around the structure, especially around the corners and the junction of the walls and roofs.

Beyond the shingles, H&L also built up the wall assembly, installing insulation, z-girts, and plywood. We supplied and installed custom flashing for the skylights and canopy, integrated inlaid gutters, and added trim for the windows and doors.

To guarantee a flawless execution, we constructed a full-scale mock-up of a section of The Belle, ensuring every detail met the specifications and received approval from the Architect, LGA Architectural Partners.

H&L is proud to have contributed to this transformative community project. To learn more about Mabelle Park, visit: mabellearts.ca/mabelle-park-transformation.
