Heather & Little brings its expertise to the 19.6 million restoration of the 112 year-old courthouse, which was nearly destroyed in a fire in February 2021. While the walls of the main building and 16 surrounding columns survived the fire, the center dome and clock tower were lost and need to be replicated. The courthouse, built in 1905, needed restoration and preservation after moisture infiltration from the dome and decay from years of central Illinois’ seasonal temperature and humidity swings. When it was time to replace the worn out asphalt shingle roof on this iconic church in Cobourg, Ontario, the architect chose a custom fabricated sheet metal shingle. Heather & Little fabricated the shingles and flashing accessories and installed them.
The original 1880 bronze-clad doors of Brighton Municipal Court in Boston had deteriorated and urgently required restoration. Heather and Little Ltd. took on the job of recreating six twelve-foot-high bronze Kalamein doors. This was a challenging project as the original brass doors were not typical Kalamein construction and consisted of very intricate millwork and sheet metal profiles. Winner of 2021 North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) award.
Heather & Little brought their expertise to the copper clad dome and copper repoussé pinecone finial of Christ Chapel, (built in 2019). The 32-foot self-supporting brick dome was clad in copper standing seam panels and topped with the 5-foot decorative copper pinecone finial. Each panel was meticulously laid out by hand and required a compound curve to fit the dome structure in Michigan. Winner of 2021 North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) award.
The 1912 Sun Tower is a notable 17-story landmark building capped by a Beaux-Arts dome and cupola clad in a terracotta tiles that has been painted to resemble aged copper. The owners and design team desired a true copper roof that replicated the existing tile. Since this product didn't exist, Heather & Little created, then installed custom-stamped copper tiles, perfectly replicating the terracotta profile.
